What to expect
What happens at a wellness visit
- 01
We talk first
Appetite, energy, bathroom habits, behavior, diet, and anything that has been on your mind. For a new patient, bring any records you have; it is fine if you do not.
- 02
Nose-to-tail physical
Dr. Arias checks eyes, ears, mouth and teeth, skin and coat, heart and lungs, belly, joints, lymph nodes, and weight. Most pets are calmer for this at home, which is one reason we offer home visits.
- 03
A prevention plan
Vaccines that are due, parasite prevention, dental care, nutrition and weight, and any screening that makes sense for your pet's age. You get recommendations ranked by what matters most, not a long list of upsells.
- 04
A clear quote before anything extra
If a vaccine, test, or treatment is recommended, you get the price first and decide. Nothing is added without your okay.

Questions people ask
How often does my dog or cat need a wellness exam?
Once a year for most healthy adult dogs and cats. Puppies and kittens need several visits in their first months for vaccine series, and senior pets (roughly 7 and older) often benefit from a visit every six months so problems are caught early.
Does the $75 exam include vaccines?
No. The $75 covers the examination and consultation. Vaccines, tests, and medications are quoted separately before they are given, so you always know the total.
Can you do the wellness exam at my home?
Yes. Many dogs and cats are far more relaxed at home. A home visit is the $75 exam plus a travel fee based on your neighborhood, which we quote before booking.
What should I bring?
Any prior vaccine or medical records if you have them, a list of medications and supplements, and for cats, a carrier for practice visits. For a home visit, just have your pet somewhere comfortable.
Is this an urgent care or emergency visit?
No. Wellness exams are scheduled appointments. If your pet is sick or injured right now, go directly to a 24/7 emergency hospital such as BluePearl Pet Hospital – Forest Hills ((718) 263-0099) or URvet Care 24/7 – Astoria ((646) 242-5200).
