What to expect
What happens at a vaccine visit
- 01
A quick health check first
Vaccines are only given to pets who are well enough to receive them, so Dr. Arias does a brief exam before vaccinating.
- 02
The right vaccines, not every vaccine
Core vaccines for dogs typically cover rabies, distemper, parvovirus, and adenovirus; for cats, rabies, panleukopenia, herpesvirus, and calicivirus. Lifestyle vaccines such as leptospirosis, Bordetella, canine influenza, Lyme, or feline leukemia are recommended based on how your pet actually lives in Queens.
- 03
Your rabies certificate
After a rabies vaccination you receive a signed rabies vaccination certificate with the vaccine details and the date the next one is due. Keep it; New York City requires current rabies vaccination for dogs and cats, and it is needed for a NYC dog license.
- 04
A reminder for what is next
You leave knowing which boosters are due and when, so you are not guessing a year from now.

Questions people ask
Is the rabies vaccine required in New York City?
Yes. New York City requires dogs and cats to be vaccinated against rabies and kept current. A rabies certificate is also required to get or renew a NYC dog license.
Can I get just a rabies shot and certificate?
Yes. A rabies vaccination with a brief health check and an official certificate is one of our most common visits.
Do you offer rabies and vaccines at home?
Yes. We bring everything needed to vaccinate your dog or cat at home and issue the certificate on the spot. A travel fee applies.
Can I get a replacement copy of a rabies certificate?
If we vaccinated your pet, yes; contact us and we will reissue it. If another clinic vaccinated your pet, that clinic must provide the copy.
Do you run community vaccination events?
Yes. Dr. Arias takes part in vaccination outreach around Queens. Dates are posted on Instagram and on our community medicine page.
