Deworming & parasite prevention.
Fleas in the apartment, ticks in Flushing Meadows, heartworm from one mosquito bite: Queens pets face all of it year-round. We test, treat, and set your dog or cat up with prevention that fits your budget.
What to expect
How parasite care works
- 01
Check for what is already there
A fecal test finds intestinal worms and giardia. For dogs, a heartworm test is recommended before starting or restarting prevention. Fleas and ticks are checked on exam.
- 02
Treat first if needed
Deworming for roundworms, hookworms, tapeworms, or whipworms; flea treatment for the pet, with guidance for the home so the problem does not come back.
- 03
Pick a prevention that fits
Monthly chewables, topicals, or longer-acting options for fleas, ticks, heartworm, and intestinal parasites. We explain the trade-offs and the cost so you can choose.
- 04
Keep it going
Year-round prevention is recommended in New York City because fleas live indoors through winter and heartworm risk does not disappear. We remind you when refills are due.

Questions people ask
Does my indoor cat need parasite prevention?
Often, yes. Fleas ride in on shoes, clothing, and other pets, and mosquitoes that carry heartworm come indoors. Dr. Arias will recommend what is appropriate for your cat's actual exposure.
How do I know if my dog has worms?
Some signs are visible worms in stool, a pot-bellied look, diarrhea, weight loss, or scooting, but many infected pets show nothing. A fecal test is the reliable way to know.
Can you treat a flea infestation at home?
We treat the pet and give you a step-by-step plan for the apartment: washing bedding, vacuuming, and timing. Fleas take several weeks to clear because of their life cycle, so consistency matters.
Do puppies and kittens need deworming?
Yes. Most puppies and kittens are dewormed on a schedule starting at a few weeks of age, because they commonly pick up roundworms and hookworms from their mother.
