Health certificates for dogs & cats.
Flying with your dog, moving with your cat, or sending a pet to family abroad usually requires a veterinary health certificate. Dr. Arias examines your pet and issues the certificate when your pet and the paperwork meet the requirements.
Please read: a certificate is issued only after examination and only when applicable requirements are met. We cannot promise a certificate before your pet is evaluated, and some destinations require steps that take weeks or months.
What to expect
How the certificate process works
- 01
Tell us where and when
Destination (state or country), airline, travel date, and your pet's species and age. Requirements differ by destination and change, so we check them for your specific trip.
- 02
Get the prerequisites in order
Most trips require a current rabies vaccination; many international destinations require a microchip, specific vaccine timing, blood tests, or parasite treatment within a set window. We tell you what is missing and how long it takes.
- 03
Examination
Dr. Arias examines your pet within the window the destination or airline requires (commonly within 10 days of travel for domestic flights) and confirms your pet is healthy enough to travel.
- 04
Certificate and endorsement
If everything checks out, we issue the health certificate. Some international certificates must also be endorsed by USDA APHIS; we explain that step and the timing so you are not caught at the airport.

Travel certificate questions
How far in advance should I contact you?
For domestic travel, at least two weeks. For international travel, as early as possible; some countries require blood tests or waiting periods that take several months. Contacting us the week of your flight may be too late for some destinations.
Can you guarantee my pet will get a certificate?
No. A certificate requires that your pet passes examination and that every requirement for your destination is met. We will tell you honestly whether that is achievable in your timeline.
Do you do airline health certificates?
Yes, where requirements are met. Each airline has its own rules about timing and format, so tell us the airline when you contact us.
My pet is traveling to another country. What else is needed?
Usually a microchip, rabies vaccination given after the microchip, sometimes a rabies titer blood test, parasite treatment within a set window, and USDA APHIS endorsement of the certificate. We walk you through the list for your destination.
Do you issue certificates for cats?
Yes. Health certificates are available for both dogs and cats.
Traveling with your pet?
Send us the destination and date first. We will tell you what is needed and whether the timeline works.
