At home ยท With dignity

A peaceful goodbye, at home.

When it is time, your dog or cat can be at home, on their own bed, with the people they love. Dr. Arias comes to you, explains each step gently, and handles the aftercare arrangements so you do not have to.

You will not be rushed, and you can stay the whole time.

What to expect

What happens during the visit

  • 01

    Before the visit

When you call or text, we talk through your pet's condition and, if you want, whether it is time. We schedule a window that lets you gather family, and we explain the fees and aftercare choices so there are no decisions to make in the moment.

  • 02

    Arrival and settling in

Dr. Arias arrives quietly, meets your pet where they are comfortable, and goes over what will happen. You choose who is in the room and where your pet rests.

  • 03

    Sedation first, then peace

Your pet receives a sedative so they become relaxed and sleepy, usually within a few minutes. Only after they are fully comfortable is the final medication given. It is painless, and passing is gentle and quick.

  • 04

    Time, then aftercare

You can take as much time as you need afterward. If you have chosen cremation, Dr. Arias coordinates the transport with the aftercare provider. Paw prints and fur clippings can be arranged.

Questions families ask

How do I know if it is time?

There is rarely one clear moment. Veterinarians often look at pain that cannot be controlled, loss of appetite, difficulty breathing, and whether your pet still has more good days than bad. Dr. Arias can talk this through with you by phone, or do a quality-of-life visit at home first, without pressure in either direction.

Will my pet feel anything?

The sedative is given first and your pet drifts into deep relaxation, usually within minutes. The final injection is given only after they are fully comfortable, and they do not feel it. Afterward, some reflexes such as a breath or muscle twitch can happen; these are not signs of awareness, and Dr. Arias will tell you what to expect.

Can my children or other pets be present?

Yes, if you feel that is right for your family. Many families find it helps other pets to see and sniff their companion afterward.

What are the aftercare options?

Communal cremation, where ashes are not returned, and private cremation, where your pet's ashes are returned to you, usually within one to two weeks. We coordinate with the aftercare provider so transport happens from your home. Home burial is subject to local rules; we can discuss it.

How soon can you come?

We do our best to schedule within a day or two, and sooner when possible. If your pet is in acute distress and we cannot get to you quickly, a 24/7 emergency hospital can help immediately, and we will tell you that honestly.

What does it cost?

Each visit is quoted individually because travel, aftercare choice, and keepsakes vary. Call or text and we will give you a clear total before anything is scheduled.
